One of the most important features of the church is the central location of the
font. A distinctive facet of the font is that the outlet is the exact centre of
the building in length, breadth and height. Although in most churches the font
is placed at the entrance, since baptism represents entry into a Christian
life, at St John’s the visitor, walking past the font and up to the altar, metaphorically passes
through the waters of baptism and rises to the altar of salvation.
