Each Pascal candle lasts for a year and a new one is blessed at the Easter Vigil
Service, it is lit from a blessed flame and the congregation light smaller
candles from this, it is also dipped in to the waters of Baptism as a symbol of
Christ. The candle represents ‘Christ the light of the world’.
Baptism candles are lit from this candle and are given to newly Baptised
Christians at the family service following Thier Baptism.
