The parish continued to be administered by that of Dunholme, until the vicar of
Dunholme Henry Brackenbury resigned from his post in 1837. The parish was
without an incumbent until 1841, when Reverend Richard Garvey, the vicar for
the parish of St Nicholas was given the extra responsibility of the parish of
St John. The parish of St Nicholas became known as St Nicholas with St John the
Baptist.
However, the parish of St John the Baptist regained its full current status as
an independent parish in the 1950s when the Ermine estate was built. Fr. John
Hodgkinson was appointed in 1958 as the first vicar of the parish since 1250.
