The building of the church was originally planned in two main stages. The first
stage included building the church itself and the porch area to the west. The
second stage included building the vestries, a chapel seating thirty souls to
the east, and also a bell tower further to the west. Unfortunately, the chapel
and the bell tower were never completed. This was due to the shortage of
available money. Father John Hodgkinson, who had been so determined and
enthusiastic, left for a one-year exchange in August 1965 with an American
counterpart in Iowa, before the second stage could be completed. Pending the
completion of the vestry extension to the east, the porch originally
incorporated two very small temporary vestries. The Porch is now used to
welcome people, to hold meetings in and houses the convenances.
