The Roof

One of the most remarkable
features of the church is the
interior of the roof. In the book of
Exodus, when the Israelites are in the wilderness, an important theme is that of the tent. From the interior, the roof resembles a tent, representing the Christian belief that this life is a journey through a temporary existence. At the north and south points the roof meets the floor, continuing this theme. The altar, which can be seen in the centre of the sanctuary, might represent the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark was a portable wooden sanctuary of the Israelites, a symbol of the divine presence.
The interior of the roof is a very important aspect of the church in the context of the architecture of the building.
