Notes

Last Tuesday’s meeting was the first meeting of the new PCC and we welcomed several new members to the meeting. Here are some of the highlights of the meeting – if you would like more information, please have a word with any member of the PCC, who are Fr. Stephen, Churchwardens, Pam Beattie, Susan Brennan, Paul Cartwright, Liz Straw, David Fleshbourne, Daniel Holt, Tabitha Holt, Jackie Howell, Christine Priestley, Rosemary Rudeforth, Cay Sherlock, Peter Sherlock, Sue Young.

The PCC welcomed the news that Bishop Tim has asked if Revd Melanie Jackson could be welcomed into the parish as a non-stipendiary priest, and were pleased to confirm this (see above). We also were delighted to welcome Stephen Crosby as a reader in the parish – he will be welcomed and affirmed in his ministry later in the year.

We agreed to a request for a summer fair to be held on church grounds by the Parent and Toddler group during the summer.

We heard that the stewardship campaign had at this stage reached 68% of the total target yearly income, and the PCC thanked all those who had been active in the campaign.

Building work on the vestries is unlikely to take place until the late summer at the earliest – we are still awaiting the specification from the architect.

The PCC confirmed the final details of the revised child protection policy and the vulnerable adults policy for the church

Bev Barton and Margaret Bateman were added to the electoral roll and we agreed to order a plaque in memory of Ron Hills.

We confirmed a policy on the use of bouncy castles by groups hiring the hall and we thought about the way in which church flowers are paid for. This item had been requested by a member of the congregation. The PCC decided that we should continue to fund them from our general funds, but that people would be invited if they wished to make a donation to the flowers for a special anniversary, birthday or to remember a loved one.

The main item on the agenda was the discussion of a paper by Fr Stephen entitled “Moving On”. This looks at our mission as a church and suggests ways in which the parish could develop in the next few years. The PCC agreed that our current mission statement was appropriate if rather wordy and that we should look to a more succinct summary to support what we already had. Our discussion took in

  • Becoming a Fairtrade Church
  • Exploring deeper links with Luili
  • Worship
  • We agreed that the staff meeting could do some more work on this for the PCC and that the PCC would regularly revisit this report. The report is available on our website or in limited copies at the back of church. If you would like anything discussed at the PCC, please do speak to any member of the PCC. We do need notice of items so that they can be presented and discussed properly; PCC dates are noted in the diary for the year, but please feel free to mention anything at anytime.
