Another very full meeting of the PCC last Tuesday found us discussing a very wide range of topics. If you would like any more information, please do speak to any member of the PCC, but here is a summary of what we tackled:

The PCC agreed to a proposal to change the time of the Wednesday morning service from 9:15am to 9:30am. This will take effect in January.

We agreed the fees for weddings and funerals for 2009 and proposals from the staff meeting for study groups for next year. This includes a course on world faiths, a series of talks in Lent on the theme of “Walking to Jerusalem”, an introduction to the Bible and a rerun of the Parish Foundation Course starting in September.

We looked at the implications of the Eco-Congregation award, and agreed to regularly include information on energy saving issues in this bulletin. We agreed that the flower festival next year should have as its theme “Earth our Home” and include displays and activities about eco-friendly issues. At our next meeting we will be considering what action we might take in response to the feasibility study we had done last year.

Sue Brennan was asked to consider setting up a healing ministry group.

Sue Fleshbourne and David Rudeforth reported on a conference for churchwardens they had attended. As a result of this, they will be looking at clutter in the church and where possible, clearing it!

The PCC agreed a policy paper prepared by our visitors group on official parish visiting, and noted that we may be required to register with the Charity Commission in 2012.

We had received a request from the son of the architect of the church for a small brass plaque to be erected in church in Sam Scorer's memory. The PCC agreed that if the plaque fitted onto one of the pew shelves, they would permit it to be installed.

We heard that the work on the vestries will not take place this year as we are still waiting for the faculty to be granted.

The PCC were pleased to hear that we have a bequest from Gwenda Goy's estate of £500 to come to us. We agreed that this should be used to help to pay for the additional radio microphone; if there is any left, the remainder will be put in a fund to provide a sound system and induction loop for the church hall.

Arising from our discussion about Back to Church Sunday we agreed to look to set up a small group of people to act as welcomers on a Sunday morning and to investigate ways of identifying the churchwardens (probably a small badge).

We also considered a proposal from the hall committee to install folding doors at the arched entrance to the hall (where there are currently curtains). We agreed to investigate the feasibility of this, and noted that we will be able to have at least half the cost of the work donated by Janet Ashton.

We received accounts from Pathfinders, noted that Bishop Tim will be making an Episcopal visitation to the parish in November 2009 and agreed the PCC dates for 2009.
