At last Tuesday’s meeting of the PCC we spent some time talking about finance and building work. We noted that the work on the vestries has now been completed and that our contribution towards the £30,000 cost was £3000. The PCC agreed to the drain at the front of the church being cleared: it is blocked in the centre by bottles and it can only be cleared by digging down under the access path. Subject to insurance permission, we also agreed to put anti-vandal paint on the two flat roofs.
The PCC heard about Fr Stephen’s extended study leave (see above) and discussed social events for 2010. We were concerned that some events are not supported especially as they are a key part of our fundraising every year. A number of suggestions for next year were made by the members for the hospitality group to consider at their next meeting.
A standing item on our agenda at the moment is ideas for our 50th anniversary in 2013. Suggestions so far have included a stained glass installation in the plain glass above the entrance, and commissioning a new piece of music for the church.
It was agreed that the fabric committee should carry out a health and safety check on the church later in the year and that a small group of interested people should be gathered to think about this year’s nativity play. The bequest from Breta Pearson was noted and we agreed to put this towards the cost of a new altar cloth; once the sword is sold, it was agreed that any profit should be put into a fund towards the 50th anniversary celebration.
The date for the annual meeting next year was set for 18 April and we noted that the church and church hall are due their quinquennial inspection in 2010. We agreed that our harvest gifts this year would be donated either to Eve House (we are investigating whether they might want/need food items) or to the Community Larder.
Please ask any member of the PCC if you would like any further information. Their names are noted on the notice board in the porch.
