We welcome our new Parish Priest Revd Rachel Heskins

On the 5th of November, Rachel Heskins was officially made the St John's new parish Priest.  We welcome her into our parish and look forward to the exciiting time ahead.

Here is a little about her.

Rachel was born and grew up as a Christian in Telford in Shropshire.  After leaving school, she studied at Durham University and discovered the joys of singing in a college chapel choir and was a member The Durham Revue, writing and performing comedy for the Edinburgh Fringe.  After graduating, she studied acting and musical theatre at Mountview Theatre School in London and went on to work in retail and catering before finally deciding to become a teacher.  She trained in Oxford and taught RE and Philosophy for ten years in secondary schools in London and Kent.

She married Jeffrey in 2004 and they have two sons together, Zach (13) and Seth (12) and a dog, Syndey (8).  They moved to Lincolnshire in 2007 and Rachel volunteered with the NCT, helped to run a preschool, got involved in local politics, directed the village panto, and ran the London Marathon.  She has also been a regular contributor to BBC Radio Lincolnshire.  She worked as a chaplain at William Farr Church of England Comprehensive School for four years prior to completing her ordination training at Westcott House in Cambridge.  She continues to be involved with young people and church schools through her work as a school governor, leading collective worship, supporting the Family Hour baby and toddler group and a weekly Sunday afternoon service for children and their parents and carers.

Rachel has been serving as Assistant Curate in the Benefice of Welton and Dunholme with Scothern for the last three years and is excited to be able to take up this new role as Vicar of Lincoln St John the Baptist.   She is a real enthusiast for liturgy and music and wants to encourage everyone to discover their own gospel story – their personal encounter with Jesus, not just the ones we read about in the bible – and to have the confidence to share it.

Rachel enjoys knitting, running, swimming, singing, gin, Radio 4 and watching television.
